Wilhelm Riedel studied at the Academy in Prague under Professor Haushofer and in Düsseldorf under Professor Aschenbach. The presented work probably comes from the artist's first residence in Italy, where he discovered ancient Roman and Renaissance memorials as well as open-air painting. His method of detailed painting, work with light and the subject itself clearly testify to the artist's oscillation between Romanticism and Realism. Oil on cardboard, unsigned.
