This large canvas by the controversial German symbolist painter was created in the last place he worked, on the island of Capri, where he lived from 1900 until his death. However, it is inspired by the artist's personal acquaintance with the Egyptian pyramids and sculpture. In 1895 he set out on a study trip to Italy, and from there he continued to Egypt.
