The painting depicts the Virgin Mary nursing the infant Jesus (Madonna Lactans) in the company of Saint Elizabeth and young John the Baptist, who is lightly touching the head of a lamb in reference to the symbolism of the Lamb of God. The entire scene is set in a richly painted floral frame, the author of which is Flemish cabinet painter Frans Wouters (1612-1659). Oil on copper. Assessment: Dr. Klaus Ertz.
