Oil on canvas. Signed upper right: “V. Vrbová 33”. This painting of a seated girl with dark hair is an early work by Vilma Vrbová-Kotrbová. This Czech painter, portraitist and illustrator studied at the School of Applied Arts in Prague (1921–1924) and later at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (1924–1930) under Professor Vratislav Nechleba. In 1947 she created the winning design for the 100 Czechoslovak koruna banknote. In 1935 she became a member of the Umělecká Beseda art association.
