Airbrush and acrylic on canvas. Signed on reverse side. Part of a series of five similar compositions in which facial features of Arcimboldo-esque heads emerge from various gathered materials. The characteristic coalescence of interest in reality with original compression-based compositions first appear in the artist's oeuvre in 2011 as a response to images of the destruction following the Japanese tsunami and flooding of the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant. He most recently presented this position at the Concrete Jungle exhibition (2017/ 2018). However, themes of scrapyards and spontaneous urban structures also generally refer to the problem of multiplication, production and rapid consumption. Michal Škapa is an essential figure in the Prague art and street art scene. He works with various media and formats – from murals, acrylic calligraphic abstraction and airbrushed figurative compositions to site-specific installations and spatial objects. He presented the Czech Republic at the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai and has exhibited at a number of prestigious galleries (Prague City Gallery, DOX, Trafačka, GASK – Gallery of the Central Bohemian Region in Kutná Hora, Gallery of Fine Art in Cheb, Regional Gallery in Jihlava). He founded the screenprint workshop Analog!Bros and works closely with the label BiggBoss. In 2017 he presented the solo exhibition Analfabet at Trafo Gallery, and in 2018 he will open a large exhibition at the Villa Pellé.
