The subject of a winter mountain landscape does not feature often in Kubín's work. As usual, he depicts the landscape from a distance and divides it with clearly-defined horizontal lines. What is missing, however, is a detailed element in the foreground; in most cases these are trees, a stone wall or detail from a path. Here the closest "detail" is a village dominated by a church tower. The detail of the painting corresponds to the distance. His work with light is also interesting. From the early 1920s, Kubín attempted to capture the soft southern light of Provence, which became a typical element in his landscapes. Light, not color, was the main subject for the artist. This work, although it captures the different landscape of the Alps with its cold, high light, brings together the compositional principle of light, line and color. The painting is an interesting collector's item due to the very subject and as it bears proof of Kubín's systematic, deliberate landscape composition. Oil on canvas, signed "Coubine" on bottom right. Identification label on back: "Mont Genévr – L'hiver 1927".
