Vladimír Lebeděv gained public admiration mainly thanks to illustrations of children's books. He became the initiator of an independent stream of Soviet graphics, especially posters. A prominent place in Lebedev's work belongs to the series Street Types and Thematic Drawings on the Theme of the New Economic Policy. Satirical drawings such as the Policewoman show especially middle-class people who "enjoy life as long as they can". Lebedev exaggerated the characteristic elements of the individual and created caricatures of ordinary people and officials who prospered in the new economic policy.
