During his lifetime, Jiří Kolář became a legend thanks to his collage and chiasmage techniques, and he remains a sought-after artist in galleries and auction houses around the world. In his single-image rolague, cutting and shifting segments creates a unique kinetic effect. By disrupting the familiar image, the meaning of the work shifts, giving rise to new interactions, emotions, and doubts. Disformace, in which Kolář created a collage from a single reproduction without adding or removing anything, is intended to evoke a sense of disharmony and a search for wholeness.
