An allegorical motif by Jan Sadeler, the eldest of a famous family of engravers. He originally lived in Antwerp, moved to Cologne, and was court engraver at the court in Munich. He also lived in Venice and was granted papal privilege. Bacchus sits on a barrel by a wine press, in front of which Music plays the viola da gamba and Cupid holds a burning torch. The motif is based on Joos van Winghe and is dedicated to Charles of Austria.
