František Reichentál was a painter originally from Slovakia who had to emigrate because of his Jewish origins. During World War II, he hid in Hungary under a false identity. After the war, he was displaced and emigrated to the US, where he made a living as a draftsman and illustrator. His expressionist-style flowers reveal his penchant for the avant-garde and his desire to experiment with different styles—he also devoted himself to Cubo-Futurism and Surrealism, for example.
