HABAN PLATE
1696
glazed ceramics
Diameter 34 cm
| 2 917 €
A rare Haban faience with rich painted decoration in cobalt blue and turquoise glaze. In addition to the central date 1696, the initials IPW are found in the heart motif. Hutterite, also known as Anabaptist, faience occupies an important position in the development of ceramic art in many European countries. It has also become a well-known concept in the field of art history and collecting. The creators of this ceramics, after whom it was named, were members of the Anabaptist religious movement. They were later called Hutterites. A characteristic feature of the floral decoration of Moravian Anabaptist faience was its clear independence from real natural forms. An important source of new inspiration for the decoration of Anabaptist faience in the second half of the 17th century was the blue-decorated faience from Delft, which includes the plate offered here with floral and animal motifs. The plate comes from an important Prague collection. Very good condition, minor crack.
