Max Švabinský excelled at transforming drawings into graphic art. Etching on zinc plates preserves the delicacy of the lines, but makes use of the deep black shadows that intaglio printing provides. Švabinský created textures using sandpaper, for example. Summer Day is a celebration of the season, an exaggerated feeling of the Kozlovská rokle gorge brought to life by human participation in the form of a lady with a white lace parasol and seated picnickers with children. The graphic sheet is rare on the market; only a few copies were printed, which Švabinský subsequently signed.
