This brilliantly executed sketch presents a small portrait of a costumed girl by Jan Václav Mrkvička. As a portraitist he was sought after by members of the aristocracy, but it is often the records of ordinary people that are of most interest. The Art Nouveau-style portrait of a girl with flowers in her hair undoubtedly belongs to this diverse, almost folkloristic group.
