Milada Marešová was a masterful storyteller of human stories. She painted people from all walks of life and documented their fates. She created in an ingenious artistic shorthand that earned her the title of the forerunner of Czech comics. She was able to combine the theme of the big city and social criticism, and in the 1920s she created several scenes from the countryside from the “lower classes” of society. The uncanny realism combined with an unspoken inner life and irony was evident in Milada Marešová's work throughout the 1920s.
