From the expert opinion of PhDr. Nadězda Blažíčková-Horová: "Pinkas's portraits of rural people, social genres and landscape shots were based on a realistic record of facts, sometimes following the landscape painters of the Barbizon School, sometimes absorbing Courbet's realism and the monumental rural typology of Jean-François Millet. It is to his characters that Pinkas's painting Girl from Vaux-de-Cernay, a fusion of landscape and genre motifs, is close. The girl leaning against a large stone, knitting in her hand, with a ship's mast and a sail on her back, is executed with bold colour and the utmost effort at realistic representation." Sobeslav Hippolyte Pinkas lived and married in the Chevreuse Valley near Paris. After his return to Bohemia, he painted only occasionally and taught drawing. His works are rarely found on the market.
