Marek Číhal (1986) POLAR BEAR

Painting with environmental themes clearly belongs to the contemporary artistic discourse. The ice melts under the polar bear on the canvas, instead of falling snow it rains on him. His environment is changing, and he does not know when he will end up in the open ocean. A sovereign style of expressive expression combining the principles of painting and drawing, enhanced by the use of colour, characterises Mark Číhal's painting of the bear. The energy hidden in his paintings is even more evident in his large-scale canvases or in his architectural projects, on which he collaborates with the architectural studio Acht. The colourful and playful compositions have a very immediate effect, with the running bear here pointing directly at the observer through the suggested background of ice and rain.
