The small study sculpture called bozzetto is a masterful example of Baroque woodcarving depicting the Virgin Mary. Immaculata, Czech for Immaculate, refers to the dogma of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary in her mother's womb. In the Baroque period, she is depicted in art mostly as a young girl standing on a sphere (symbolizing the world) wrapped around an overpowered serpent (a symbol of sin). It is probably a minor variant of the design intended for the top of the column. According to the artistic quality of the chamber sculpture, it is a work from the circle of the important Czech sculptor Matyáš Bernard Braun. A later adaptation of the setting on an inverted Corinthian head.
