This generous work from the 1960s is an exemplary masterpiece of some of the starting points Jaroslav Paur arrived at artistically. The painting technique is simplified, the lines crystallise into fine geometric structures and scraped lines are embraced, adding depth and sophistication to the composition. From the more descriptive landscapes of the big city with menacing-looking red giants in the sky, we now look to a much calmer and philosophical composition of celestial bodies - we perceive their movements and subtle electrifying vibrations amidst a pastel haze. The answer to the urgency of existential questions is here guided by a calm and respectful look upwards - to something that far exceeds man in its monumentality.
