This is a very rare Louis XV chest of drawers from the workshop of Jacques Bircklé, who became a master cabinetmaker in 1764. His workshop was located on rue Saint-Nicolas. He gained prestige through his collaboration with Jean Henri Riesner, who granted him the title of contractor to the so-called Garde-Meuble de la Courone, an association that administered the king's estate with a focus on furniture and craftsmanship, which lasted during the period known as the Ancien Regimes (1785-1789). In addition to his own stamped signature, it bears the stamped mark JME (Jurande des Maîtres Ébénistes). The chest of drawers offered here is characterised by its uncharacteristic dark legs finished at the back with bronze lion's paws. The inlaid bouquet in a vase in the front view is framed in a mahogany inlaid frame. Fully restored, original key.
