MADONNA
Before 1912
glazed whiteware
13 cm (h)

Starting price
The traditional theme of the Madonna in the Art Nouveau period was often used in various authorial variations in ceramic works. Worth mentioning are, for example, the concepts by Helena John from 1911 or Anton Klieber from 1920. The lovely Madonna offered here, designed in 1907 by Michael Powolny, is characterised by its emphasis on the gilded drapery draping the Mother's body. The sculpture is marked below with the impressed monogram MP and the maker's mark of Wiener Keramik, which produced ceramics and porcelain for the famous Wiener Werkstätte. Model number: 96.
