After returning from Paris in 1910, Gutfreund combined expressive form with symbolic content and inspiration from French Cubism in his sculptures and reliefs. His Cubo-Expressionist period also includes depictions of Don Quixote and Hamlet, which reflect his personal experience of existential uncertainty. The sculpture of a standing knight leaning on his sword has not been preserved. Later cast.
