CHINESE CERAMIC PAIR OF LIONS FU

China, 20th century. Pair of glazed ceramic sculptures. Animal guardians of homes and temples, known as Chinese guardian lions, which more closely resemble dogs and are therefore inaccurately referred to in European languages as "Foo dogs" (in English transcription "Foo"). In traditional Chinese art, however, these animals are referred to as "lions" (sh/shi), representing the male and female principles. In excellent condition.
