BAROQUE PUTTI

The face bears the features of Baroque classicizing morphology: a round face, soft hatching of hair into rich curls, slightly downcast eyes, and a calm, almost meditative expression. This type of angel-putti used to be part of altar compositions, placed on cornices, volute wings of retables or pulpits, where their dynamic movement enlivened the architectural framework. Stylistically, the work can be classified as Central European Baroque sculpture from the second third to the middle of the 18th century. New polychromy and gilding.
