Jan Štursa (1880 - 1925) PUBERTY

The sculpture is one of Štursa's masterpieces from his first lyrical period. The imagery of the curves in this pose highlights the young figure in her prime and all her naked beauty. The girl with her head tilted smiles, her curls fall on her shoulders, and all her curves are exceptionally smooth. Jan Štursa first studied at the school of sculpture and stonemasonry in Hořice and from 1899 attended the Prague Academy. Elements of Art Nouveau symbolism are reflected in his early work.
