Jaroslav Panuška (1872 - 1958) ROOKS IN THE PRE-SPRING NEAR OPLANY

Jaroslav Panuška was a diligent and grateful observer of the Czech landscape, who did not go without a sketchbook and was constantly creating. The impressive landscape with ravens repeated itself several times during the 1930s and 1940s - whether in winter or spring. Although we can sense echoes of an earlier decadent phase when ravens accompanied the ravings and hauntings, in later paintings they are more of a disinterested audience enlivening the hushed landscape.
