Inspiration from Chinese and Japanese art in Europe began with imports from these countries in the 17th century, especially at the beginning of the 18th century, when attempts were made to imitate entire architectural structures (pavilions, pagodas), materials, techniques, and decor. These include, for example, Delft pottery, Meissen porcelain, French Rococo furniture, and painting. This rare black lacquered chest of drawers with chinoiserie motifs has four drawers and depicts scenes of Chinese architecture, inhabitants, fauna, and flora, dominated by fantastical birds, using the technique of impasto lacquer and painting. Good condition with numerous defects.
