CAUCASUS RUG

A hand-knotted wool carpet with the famous Lezgin star design. Paradoxically, the Caucasian dance "lezginka" is better known than the Lezgins themselves, but they are an interesting small nation in the eastern Caucasus who apparently made this design famous in the 19th century, when carpets with a similar composition were produced in Dagestan and Azerbaijan. Given the charm of the design, it can be assumed that the antique patterns were copied in areas with numerous carpet production, and therefore not necessarily in Lezgin families or workshops. A very nice carpet with a catchy design. Professionally cleaned on both sides.
