INDIAN CARPET WITH PARADISE GARDEN DESIGN

India, circa 1990, hand-knotted wool carpet on a cotton warp. The design depicts a blossoming garden in Paradise for the faithful, with the central medallion in this medallion composition representing the Tree of Life. The inner band around the paradise composition is decorated with a so-called klikatica, which is a symbol of flowing water, or in a broader sense, a symbol of life. The wide floral border is also entirely floral and dominated by large palmettes, which are composites of various flowers surrounded by foliage, flowers, and scrolls. Professionally cleaned on both sides.
