Jaroslav Herbst (1887 - 1971) PAINTER'S STILL LIFE

Jaroslav Herbst came from a farming family in Dušníky in the Podřipsko region. He studied mechanical engineering and later civil engineering at the Czech Technical University in Prague, and devoted himself to painting as a self-taught artist from 1912 onwards. After World War I, he returned permanently to his family farm, where he farmed and painted in complete isolation from the artistic community.
