Verre églomisé is a French term describing the process of applying a pattern and gilding to the back of glass in order to create a mirrored surface of the desired ornament. Although this technique got its name in the 18th century, it is a very old technique dating back to pre-Roman times. One of the key historical periods for this art was the 13th to 16th centuries in Italy. The mirror on offer is an exceptional example of this technique, which primarily features rocaille ornamentation. Very good condition with local defects.
