Johann Sigismund Menzel (1744 - 1810) SILHOUETTE CUP

A very rare cup with portrait silhouettes of a man and a woman by the important engraver Johann Sigismund Menzel. The goblet with gold rim and cut gold pearl chain, the inset medallions with a male portrait in black on a ground of gold leaf, surrounded by a cut cartouche with rose branches and flower festoons and two laurel branches, the base of the body with faceted cut-outs, round applied discs, faceted nodus, quadrilateral foot on a square base.
