The main decoration is a painted scene set against a blue background, framed by a gilded band with a black outline. The scene depicts three classically dressed men—one standing, one kneeling, and one seated in a philosophical pose. The painting is executed in grey tones with white highlights, reminiscent of the grisaille technique. On the reverse side of the cup is a hand-painted green garland rendered in a manner that gives it a relief-like appearance. The handle is angular, geometric, and gilded. The saucer is decorated in the same style, featuring matching green garlands. Produced by the Sorgenthal-era Vienna porcelain manufactory.
