wooden wine barrel. The children are stylized as putti or “galant children,” miniature versions of adults – a typical feature of Rococo aesthetics. One child sits atop the barrel raising a goblet, another plays a lyre, one carries a basket of grapes on their back, and another is pouring or already drinking wine from a chalice. The overall composition exudes joy and celebration, expressing abundance, zest for life, and childlike innocence infused with symbols of the adult world. The base is richly decorated with gilded Rococo scrollwork ornamentation. Produced by the Meissen porcelain manufactory.

Damage: cracked lid of the barrel, small missing parts of the composition.
