Jakub Schikaneder was a representative of the National Theatre generation. He is known for his works depicting both social themes and Prague's nooks and crannies - especially nocturnes. The present drawing also displays a shaded contemplative landscape reminiscent of works from the 1920s with the theme of the seascapes of Helgoland.
