Ilja Repin's study drawing of a man and woman at a table is a fine example of his mastery of drawing. Using almost elementary means, he models the expressions of both subjects in a thoroughly convincing manner, and without resorting to excessive descriptiveness, the situation is depicted with extraordinary fidelity and emotional charge.
