Ivan Ouhel (1945 - 2021) LIGHT

The large-format painting Light belongs to Ouhel's work from the 1990s, which is often referred to as "The Time of Painting." He returned to painting with full force and unprecedented enthusiasm, his canvases full of life and featuring themes of light and awakening nature. After a protracted illness that struck him in 1981 and took him out of work for more than a year, he began to take recuperative trips to the seaside, where the sun breathed new life into him. Towards the end of the 1990s, the pictorial surface gradually calmed down. Colorful areas slowly took over, appearing in the paintings in completely new combinations. Ivan Ouhela's work is an integral part of Czech art of the last decades. The artist's dreamy, deeply felt worlds, bordering on symbolism and expressionism, belong to the line of Czech lyrical abstraction.
