Jan Slavíček was a member of the Umělecká Beseda (Artistic Society) and S.V.U. Mánes (Mánes Union of Fine Arts). The expression of the presented painting draws on Slavíček's stay in France, demonstrating his coloristic bravura and the balance of individual planes and confident structuring of the terrain with bold brushstrokes. Even in this relatively small format, the principles applied to larger canvases are clearly evident.
