Miloslav Holý (1897 - 1974) STILL LIFE WITH APPLES AND GLASS

Still Life with a Glass and Apples by Miloslav Holý represents a stream of ideas that the author arrived at based on his visits to France. Color gains strength in his compositions, brightening and combining with energetic strokes. The author was strongly attached to expressionist forms and colorism. The impasto-style fruit set on a wildly colorful tablecloth with a sprig of mimosa is a celebration of the momentary experience. Holý studied at the Prague Academy under Jan Preisler, Vlaho Bukovac, and Jakub Obrovský, and also attended M. Švabinský's graphic arts specialization.
