The first sketch for the larger painting Pradleny (Washerwomen) appeared in Špála's sketchbook as early as 1912. The same composition was later developed several times in the form of watercolors and oils, and was also translated into graphics. The 1917 drawing of three washerwomen, in the spirit of high Cubism, displays all the familiar elements of Špála's Washerwomen and is interesting for its provenance, coming from the collection of diplomat Miloš Šafránek, father of art historian Anna Fárová.
