Zdeněk Burian was one of the absolute best in the field of illustration, especially in connection with prehistory and adventure books. As an author, he was extremely productive even during the totalitarian era, with the number of his works probably reaching around 15,000. In this respect, his work essentially became popular and an engaging part of reading. As an author, he had his favorite themes, and it is precisely these adventurous themes full of dynamic twists and turns that are projected into the theme of The Post-White Mountain Era. The central motif is a fiery angel, perhaps an allusion to the apocalypse - the Revelation of St. John - and the executioner's sword of Mydlář, which rests on a stone in front of the cross and Týn Church on Old Town Square. Soldiers with swords surround the lords who are about to be interrogated. The presented work falls into the category of free creation, which included a huge range of themes - from landscapes and genres to realistic portraits, historical events, and allegories. Most of these works are done in oil on canvas, but the range of techniques and subjects is so varied that it is difficult to define the breadth of Zdeněk Burian's work.
