In the context of Pravoslav Kotík's work, France represented an indispensable impulse that determined the direction of his artistic career for a long time. He visited it for the first time in 1924 and returned to the country repeatedly throughout his life. The oil painting from 1930 depicts two succinctly captured figures. Despite the subtlety of the contour lines and formal reduction, Kotík does not completely abandon the human figure, which he models using carefully chosen color accents in addition to the contour lines. The work refers to the author's French experience, which he drew on extensively in the early 1930s.
