Josef Jíra's autobiographical world includes thoughtful symbols, experiences, and favorite places that were formative for him in many ways. The church in Jenišovice dominates his native village and is linked to Jíra's childhood memories. The deeply felt landscape with a foreground scene, drawn in detail with thick layers of colorful paste and darker areas, is his diary with a universal emotional charge – the landscape blends his loving perception of the landscape of his childhood with the gloomy demons with which he fought intensely within himself.
