Josef Šíma's intimate drawings are a spiritual synthesis of light and an inwardly felt landscape that breaks free from formal descriptive means. Delicate drawing, typical sfumato, and a few touches of watercolor create a delicate, energetic image that the artist matured into. In the late phase of his work, after 1950, Josef Šíma reached a second creative peak, and light as an artistic material completely dominated his work.
