The Oceanic lamp, designed by Michele De Lucchi, resembles a fantastical creature and, thanks to its original design, has become one of the most famous icons of the Memphis design group. Their products stood out for the high "emotional value" they evoked, which far exceeded functionality and ergonomics. It is not just about functionality, but also about the language that objects and furniture speak. Michele De Lucchi is an Italian designer and architect. At the turn of the 1970s and 1980s, he was a leading representative of radical architecture and participated in the most important Italian design movements of the time. He has curated numerous art and design exhibitions and designed museum buildings such as the Milan Triennale, the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome, and the Neues Museum in Berlin. The table lamp comes from the important collection of renowned artist and collector Ivan Steiger, who purchased it in the 1980s.
