From the review by PhDr. Rey Michalová Ph.D: "The presented work is authentic, valuable to collectors, visually richly orchestrated, and perfectly balanced, presenting the work of František Kupka, one of the most important figures in Czech art and a world pioneer of abstract painting in the first half of the 20th century. The fusion of Kupka's wide range of interests and creative predispositions resulted in his first purely abstract paintings in 1912. The conceptual foundations of the C series (derived from the French Contrastes - Contrasts), consisting of a total of twelve paintings created between 1935 and 1954, can be found in the very beginnings of the author's abstract work. The visual sources of the vertical principle in Kupka's work were varied, ranging from the majestic rock formations on the coast of Brittany to Gothic architecture and the stepped towers of Hindu temples. The paintings from the C series introduce Kupka's idea of an interior space bounded by a more or less distinct architectural framework. Here, visual experiences become the building blocks of a new reality that is already "obedient to laws other than those of the objective world" (F. Kupka).
