This is a larger version of a vase designed by Josef Hoffmann, a prominent representative of the Vienna Secession. The decorative motif, combining geometric patterns of linden leaves and bells, was first introduced in 1911. That year, two collections featuring this decoration were created for Johann Loetz Witwe and J. & L. Lobmeyr. Vases of this shape and with this decoration were produced in several color variations. The etched decoration was created using a complex process. For this color variant, the piece, originally made of colorless glass, was first covered with an opalescent coating and then further covered with black paint. In several subsequent steps, the decoration was etched from the coating using acid. The stylized depiction of bells with foliage combined with a geometric pattern reflects Hoffmann's characteristic design language typical of his collaboration with the Wiener Werkstätte. Excellent condition.
