Alois Kalvoda is one of the leading Czech landscape painters of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Between 1892 and 1898, he studied at the Academy under Professor Julius Mařák. Alois Kalvoda's landscapes deviate from academic contours and feature a freer style and refined, delicate colors. The landscape reveals the influence of French Impressionism, and a welcome addition is the figural staffage, which is rather rare in Alois Kalvoda's work.
