"FLAMINGO" TABLE
1984
90 x 40 x 55 cm (h x b x t)
| 750 EUR
In the fall of 1981, 55 pieces, including furniture, lamps, and ceramic objects, were exhibited at the Arc '74 gallery during the Salone del Mobile in Milan. Three months later, more than 400 periodicals around the world paid tribute to Memphis' success. These products stood out for the high "emotional value" they evoked, which far exceeded functionality and ergonomics. It is not just about functionality, but also about the language that furniture objects speak. Michele De Lucchi's "Flamingo" table, a surrealist interpretation of a flamingo, is a surprising piece that clearly expresses the spirit of Memphis: to create ironic yet functional objects that must be able to speak a language that prioritizes their emotional and sensory dimension. Michele De Lucchi is an Italian designer and architect. At the turn of the 1970s and 1980s, he was a leading figure in radical architecture and participated in the most important Italian design movements of the time. His significant experience with Centrokappa and Alchimia is also worth mentioning. The table comes from the important collection of artist and collector Ivan Steiger, who purchased it in the 1980s.
