Jan Bauch was fascinated by female artists in the saddle, and several works were created over a relatively long period of time. Jan Bauch's own description of the theme can be found in his book Čím jsem žil (What I Lived For, 1980): "Even more than the spontaneity and dynamism, what always interested me about the circus was what almost defies the laws of physics: the movements of arms as if dislocated from the shoulders, unnatural, contorted body positions. Balance with an incomprehensibly shifted center of gravity, intertwined limbs, and jumps that seem to defy the laws of gravity." The movement of matter and the dynamics of performing artistic exercises coincided with Bauch's elemental and plastic artistic concept. Jan Bauch freely followed in the footsteps of František Tichý, but instead of gracefulness, he emphasized movement and volume, underlining everything with dazzling red color and theatrical lighting.
