He was fascinated by the city and shop windows, but he also showed extraordinary sensitivity to the human condition and recorded intimate moments in interiors. His poetry of the city encompasses both the swirling life in streets full of lights and the moment of concentration of a woman at a sewing machine in subdued, calm light.
